Isaac Key could have been born in Kennett Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania or in Hopewell Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. His father, John Key (Kay), is listed on the 1779 Hopewell Township, Bedford County Pennsylvania Tax List.

In 1800 Isaac moved from Pennsylvania to Mason County, Kentucky.

Isaac and Catherine were married in Bourbon Co, Kentucky, Nov 11, 1804.

The 1810 U.S. Census record reflects Isaac Key resided in Mason County, Kentucky. The 1820 U.S. Census record reflects Isaac Key resided in Pleasant Township, Brown County, Ohio.

Isaac and Catharine Key were buried a few hundred feet from the old farmhouse on the farm of their son, Franklin Kay, near Mowrystown in Highland County, Ohio. A cement slab was constructed over their graves. From the map, it looks like their burial site is on Bells Run Creek.

Karl Kay noted: Isaac and his wife were both buried in the orchard perhaps 500 feet from the house. The farm and house passed to the ownership of Isaac's son Franklin, and later to Franklin' s son Thomas, and still later to another bachelor son, Reason Kay. He lived many years in the old family house. (Steve)

The 1850 U.S. Census record indicates Isaac and his wife, Catharine, were born in Maryland. The evidence shows Catharine Whisner Key was born in Maryland. Her parents were married in Washington Co, Maryland on July 1, 1780 and her father's name appears on the Asessment of 1783, Washington County, Maryland. U.S. Census records for John Kay and Zacheus Kay (the oldest sons of Isaac) indicate their father was born in Pennsylvania. U.S. Census records for Franklin and Thomas (the younger sons of Isaac) indicate their father was born in Maryland. John Key (Kay) (Isaac's father) is listed on the 1779 Hopewell Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania Tax List.

The 1850 U.S. Census record reflects the following persons were living in Isaac and Catharine (Whisner) Key's household: Franklin (their son), Ruth (Franklin's wife)Drucilla (the daughter of Franklin and Ruth).

The 1850 U.S. Census record indicates Isaac, age 71, resided in White Oak Township, Highland County, Ohio and was a farmer.

Bedford County, Pennsylvania is adjacent to Allegany County, Maryland. Allegany County, Maryland was created in 1789 by the splitting of Washington County, Maryland.
