Irene Allemann, 97, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Comforcare Care Center in Austin.

Irene was born on March 14, 1912, the daughter of Lewis and Tilda (Ellingson) Aase in the township of Dover, Buffalo County, Wis. On June 8, 1938, Irene was united in marriage to Christ Allemann in Mondovi, Wis. They farmed in the Waumandee, Wis., area for a few years. Beginning in 1947, they operated a store in West Bennett Valley, Wis. In 1965, they moved to Buffalo City, Wis., where Irene worked at Cochrane Nursing home for several years.

She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, and WELCA Ladies aid in Alma. During the last few years she resided at the Pepin Nursing Home, Pepin, Wis., then moved to Comforcare in Austin to be closer to her family.

Her husband Christ preceded Irene in death on Dec. 26, 1972; also preceding her was her sister, Alice Nyre, and stepsister, Odile Peterson. Irene is survived by her brother, Lewis (LaVonne) Aase; stepsister, Evelyn Aase; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at St. John Lutheran Church, with Reverend Joel Bacon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Mondovi.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Alma.
