Norbert just celebrated his 75th birthday and Harriet would have been 75 years old next September. They died in a blizzardous, icy road collision on Friday, March 14, 1997 at 2:30 p.m. Norbert was the son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Van Asten) Vosters. He was born on March 12, 1922. Harriet was the daughter of the late August and Ardena (Geurts) De Backer. She was born on September 17, 1922.
Norb and Harriet celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on July 9, 1996. They were lifetime members of St. John Parish, exemplary Christians, living their lives fully, individually and as a couple. They were always there to care and to share their time, talent and treasure. They were highly esteemed in their family, extending their family to include neighbors, friends from far and wide, numerous foster children they have cared for and a child in Honduras they support financially. They loved to spend time at their cottage near Shawano. They enjoyed playing cards, belonging to the "cousins" card club for 47 years and introducing friends and family to a current favorite, Sequence.
Norb was employed at Kimberly-Clark/REPAP for 42 years until his retirement in July, 1981. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Little Chute Golden Agers and was a Mission Club Auxiliary, especially in shipping to Bros. Regis. Norb donated blood regularly. He was a 50 year member of the Little Chute American Legion Post 258 and spent many years as a faithful member of the color guard and firing squad. He served in the U.S. Navy for three and a half years during World War II operating a troop landing ship in the Pacific Theatre. Harriet was a full-time volunteer. She was a 40 year founding member of the St. John Mission Club. She belonged to the Parish Christian Mothers, the Legion Auxiliary and Little Chute Golden Agers. She was a dedicated member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years exerting over 14,000 volunteer hours and creating over 200 quilts.
