An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, April 21, 1961:

Mrs. R. L. Murphy, 78, native and former resident of Coryell County, died Thursday, April 13, at the home of a daughter in Houston.
Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Saturday at Scott's Chapel, Melvin Franks officiating. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were W. L. Young, J. P. Weldon, Buren B. Hoffman, Donald Duncan, Lyle Murphy and Buren Wells Hoffman.
Mrs. Murphy, the former Miss Mittie Popie Morgan, was born at Flat Aug. 20, 1882.
She was married to Mr. Murphy Aug. 19, 1906, and they made their home in the Gatesville area. Mr. Murphy died in 1932.
Mrs. Murphy, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, had been living with a daughter, Mrs. Orie A. Hamilton, in Houston the last seven years.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. John E. Miller of Monrovia, Calif., Mrs. W. I. Young of Bentonville, Ark., Mrs. J. P. Weldon of Odessa and Mrs. Buren B. Hoffman of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, James E. Murphy of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. W. L. Bond of Gatesville and Mrs. W. P. Irby of Marlow, Okla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
