Christine Wimmer Conner, 77, of Check, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Garmon Conner; parents, Willie and Ida Holt Wimmer; siblings, Gladys Nichols, Raymond Wimmer, Hilton Wimmer, Gertrude Metz, Mazie Lancaster, Pearlie Jones, and Fletcher Wimmer; her first husband, Clay Lawrence; and twin grandsons. She is survived by her daughter, Kerry Lawrence; daughter, Robin Combs and husband, Gary; daughter, Tonya Lagan; son, Chris Conner and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Stephen Combs, Katie Griggs, Jonathan Combs, and Erin Mitchell; great-grandson, Nathaniel Combs; brother-in-law, Woody Lancaster; sister-in-law, Glenna Wimmer; and numerous nieces and nephews including Gil and Lisa Lancaster, who visited so faithfully, and Ray and Diann Smith, for whom the family is deeply grateful for their selfless giving and dedication to our Mother. Christine's suffering has ended. Today, she opened her eyes in paradise, where she can walk and sing and glorify her Savior. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, 540-989-3131. A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with a graveside service to follow at Restvale Cemetery in Check.
