Jemima was the 2nd of 8 children (1st daughter) born of Benoni Smith (1740-1799) and his 1st wife Elizabeth (1741-1788). Jemima was baptized in the Glastonbury, Hartford County, Connecticut, 1st Church, April 17, 1768. Her siblings were: Josiah (1766-1823), Reuben (1769-1859), Arthur (1772-1853), Howell (Hoel) (1777-1807), Anna (1780-1855), Ira (1781-1856), Jesse (d. 1788), Ezekiel (1789-1796), Robert H. (1792-1873), Jesse (1795-1796), and Abigail Eliza (b. 1798).

Jemima married, September 3, 1786, for her 1st husband Seely Brown (1759-1809) by whom she had 9 children (3 sons and 6 daughters): Betsey (Betty) (1787-1790), Horris (1788-1789), Elizabeth (1793-1878), Smith (b. 1796), Juleana (b. 1798), Emeline (1803-1867), Caroline (b. 1804), Nathaniel (b. 1806), and Anna Marra (1809-1809).

Jemima married for her 2nd husband Ephraim Robinson (1760-1843) after his 1st wife had died in 1820.
