Dr. Callahan was a dentist and real estate investor in the City of East Point. He was Also President of Hillcrest Cemetery in the early 1900's and served on the East Point city council. During his term as a councilman, his car stalled on the railroad crossing that was once at Main St. and Bryan Ave. A train struck his car while he was still seated inside feverishly trying to restart the engine.
A plaque was placed in his memory on one of the entrance pillars to Bryan Park on Milledge St. very near the accident site in his memory.
