"DEATH OF MRS. SMITH - Splended Tribute to Her Memory By Mrs. Felton, Her Neighbor.
Mrs. Eliza E. Smith was born in Fayette county, Georgia, January 8th, 1828, and died on July 27th, 1906, at the family residence in Bartow county, Georgia. Her husband, Mr. John Smith, Sr., died in the year 1873, leaving his widow with ten children, the most of them small. It was a place of great responsibility - to raise and provide for so large and helpless a family, but Mrs. Smith was equal to the task.... Every energy of her industrious nature was devoted to the interests of her children. She did a mother's whole duty by them, and her children rise up and bless her memory.
The writer has lived a near neighbor to Mrs. Smith for over fifty years. Our farms adjoined, and it is a privilege to bear testimony to her faithfulness, as wife, mother, and neighbor. Her loyalty to her children was beautiful to behold. She shirked no duty, failed in no trust - and her labors were rewarded in the prosperity of those she loved so well, and served so faithfully. Eight children survive her, and her remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery, near the Smith homestead.
She was a consistent member of the Baptist church, at Cross Roads, Bartow county, for a long term of years. Her friend and neighbor,
Mrs. W. H. Felton, August 13th, 1906.
