POCOMOKE CITY -- Madelyn E. Bunting, 102, of Pocomoke City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City.

Born Oct. 9, 1906, in Tasley, she was a daughter of the late Peter T. and Jennie Shrieves East.

Mrs. Bunting was a member of First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City for some years before transferring to Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a popular Sunday school teacher. At one time, she was a very active member of American Legion Post 93 Auxiliary, and she continued to be a great source of information to the community regarding past history. She vividly recalled walking across the first drawbridge, attending the launching of ships from the Pocomoke City shipyards and the great fire of 1922. She had a special love for needlework, cooking and gardening.

She is survived by two children, Hortense B. Tegler of Towson, Md., and Dr. George S. Bunting of Pocomoke City; four grandchildren, Paul A. Tegler Jr. and his wife, Gail, of Severn, Md., Lynn Tegler Eskow and her husband, Ron, of Sparks, Tracey Tegler Highlander of Towson and Norman Bunting of Falcon, Venezuela; nine great-grandchildren; two cousins; and a host of friends and neighbors that she had made throughout the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Bunting Sr. on Nov. 27, 1978; and two older sisters, Edna Denston and Pauline James.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holloway Funeral Home P.A. in Pocomoke City, where family and friends may call an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Salem United Methodist Cemetery at Clarke Ave. Extended in Pocomoke City.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home P.A. at 103 Linden Ave. in Pocomoke City. Visit www. hollowayfh.com to express condolences to the family.
