CHARLES LEWIS SIMMONS
Charles Lewis Simmons, father of L. L. Simmons near Elkhart, was born November 5, 1851 in Franklin, County, Virginia, and passed away September 28, 1930 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Carder near Filer, Idaho.
On November 28, 1869 he was united in marriage to Temperance Martin, who preceded him in death on May 10, 1910 near Postle, Okla. To this union were born six child-ren: Mrs. Sallie Jones, deceased; Mrs. Lucy Carder, Filer, Idaho; Lemuel L. Simmons, Elkhart, Kansas; Mrs.. Bettie Oyler, Camden Indiana; Mrs. Lora Kingery; Pomona, Kansas; and
Charles H. Simmons, Tulsa, Okla. He leaves to mourn his departure three daughters and two sons, twenty-nine grand-children, eleven great grand grandchildren, and one brother, George Simmons of Ottawa, Kansas.
Mr. Simmons united with the Church of the Latter Day Saints in 1894 and lived a member of that church until his death. With his family he moved from Virginia to Ottawa, Kansas in 1903 then to Postle, Oklahoma in 1906 and to Filer, Idaho in 1913 where he spent the remainder of his life except two years which he spent In California.
