Randolph Moore Randolph Moore, 93, died December 18, 2009 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was born on October 30, 1916, in Scotts Hill in Pender County, NC, to parents Sylvester and Ivy Moore. Moore worked the family's farms in Canetuck and Nash County, graduated from Benvenue High School, and served in the U.S. Army in 1936-37. He attended Atlantic Christian College two years, bussing students from here to the college. During the Depression, he worked for a Virginia Beach dry cleaner and the local Pepsi-cola plant. Then he became a railroad fireman and a locomotive engineer, for approximately 40 years with the ACL, SCL, and CSX Corporation, and belonged to the UT Union. He and his wife relocated from Old Wilson Road to Northgreen in the late 1970s. He retired in 1983 but sold some of his Pender County trees and land, as well as leased it. Since 2004, he lived in Fort Walton Beach. Moore read extensively; gardened; and fished. He enjoyed the Railroad Old-Timers' Club and supported the Democratic Party. Daughters are Donna Padgett, of Rocky Mount; and Janet and husband Ed Winker of Fort Walton Beach. Grandchildren are Bonnie Martin, of Griffin, GA; Michael Brooks, of Culpepper, VA; Randy Marsh of Fort Walton Beach; Barry Padgett, of Plano, TX; and Sara Harrell, of Griffin. He has 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Moore outlived his wife, Norma; parents; four brothers; and two sisters. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 7-8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 1-1:30 PM at the funeral home with Dr. Carleton McKita officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Nash General Hospital. Burial is at Pineview Cemetery. Arrangements by Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
