Nicholas Monger a lifelong resident of Swan Twp, died on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1921. He was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, September 9, 1842 to Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian Monger. He was one of five children born to this couple. His mother died when he was about seven years old. He came to Indiana from Ohio with his father and stepmother about 1855, settling in Noble County on the farm west of Avilla. One July 5, 1866, he married Martha Eddy at Kendallville and settled upon the farm in Swan Twp. They had one child, which died at the age of six months. He is survived by the widow, two sisters, Mrs. William Hill of Elkhart, Ind., and Mrs. Caroline Ruff of Sidney, Ohio; and by four half-sisters, Mrs. John Lash and Mrs. Rose Burger of Kendallville, Mrs. John Kraus of Auburn, and Mrs. Henry Schmenk of Avilla. His funeral took place from his home March 29. Burial, Avilla Cemetery
