Corp. August L. Stark of Elkhart Killed In Crash
Eklhart Lake.-Mrs. Helen Stark of Elkhart Lake received a message from A.A. Vandergrift, Lt. Gen. U.S.M.C. on Saturday, informing her that her son, Corp. August L. Stark, U.S. Marine Corps, died in an airplane accident at sea near Emican Island, St. Matthias group on Feb. 27.
Corp. Stark was born Jan 30, 1914, at Elkhart Lake, and until the time he entered service he was in business with his mother in the operation of Pine Point Resort. He graduated from the Plymouth High School in 1932 and was active in athletics and a great lover of the outdoors. He entered service Jan. 29, 1943, and trained at. San Diego, Cal., Percel, Okla., Jacksonville, Fla., and Cherry Point, N.C.
Survivors are his mother; his twin brother, Walter Stark, U.S. N.R., who is serving in the Pacific. His father, Walter Stark, Sr., died July 17, 1936.
