Pierce County Sheriff Deputy, died due to injuries from shooting.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office says a deputy, critically wounded in a shootout a week ago, has died.
Deputy Kent Mundell's wife was at his side Monday evening when doctors turned off life support. Officials say Dep. Mundell passed quickly.
Mundell and Sgt. Nicholas Hausner were shot Dec. 21 while responding to a domestic violence call. When the deputies tried to get the suspect, David Crable, to leave his brother's home, he opened fire on them.
Hausner was hit in the neck. Crable's brother and his girlfriend pulled Hausner into another room and barricaded the door.
Detectives say Mundell and Crable then were in a shootout. Crable's daughter fought with Crable to wrestle the gun away.
Mundell was hit multiple times at close range. He was on life support at Harborview Medical Center for nearly a week. Hausner was released from Madigan Army Hospital Christmas Eve. He went straight to Harborview to check on Mundell before returning home.
Deputy Mundell leaves behind a wife, a 16-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. There was a somber parade of officers from at least six police agenices entering and leaving Harborview Monday in the hours before Mundell died.
Mundell is the sixth Western Washington law enforcement officer killed by gunfire in the last two months.

Kent travelled the world growing up and settled in Puyallup, WA, where he lived for the past 30 years. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Lisa, in 1986.
Kent lived life with passion. He had many hobbies that included a variety of water and snow sports, flying, golf, camping, surfing, kite-boarding, socializing at the gym and most recently, scuba diving. Those that met him knew of his zest for life. He had a outgoing, magnetic personality and he was loved by everyone.
For the past 10 years, Kent served the community as a Deputy Sheriff in the Mountain Detachment of Pierce County. He enjoyed his work and was loved by his community.
