Sandusky Register (Sandusky, OH) - Mia Donna Fantozz, 59, 4707 Venice Road, Sandusky, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at home after brief illness.

She was born March 14, 1941, in Sandusky, and was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School. She sang in musical productions and won awards in roller skating. She was the 1955 Ohio State Champion of speed competition. After serving and playing softball in the U.S. Navy from 1960-63, she played softball, moved to California and resumed music and sports. She attended Samaritan Bible Seminary in Los Angeles and worked with prison and hospital ministries until 1977. She skated with the roller derby and was music director of the church choir at Morningland Monastery.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, IAB Auxiliary, Orioles Club, and ASA-Astrological Society of America, She received the Editor's Choice Award in 1997 for poetry, and her poem "The True Light," was published in the National Library of Poetry. She also enjoyed playing guitar and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

She was campground assistant with MHD Corp., since 1992, and was employed by Olan Mills Inc. and District Petroleum.

She is survived by two brothers, Ronald Fantozz and Robert Fantozz, both of Sandusky; and several other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosemary (Corso) Fantozz; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Rose (Scavio) Corso; and paternal grandparents, Valerio and Tomisina (Macioce) Fantozzi.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where an IAB prayer service will be 5:30 p.m., followed by liturgical services at 8:30 p.m. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Mark Davis will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky.
