Served in the C.S.A., 2nd Lt., Company H, Texas 15th Calvary Scouting Battalion.Taken prisoner at Arkansas Post, AR, 11 Jan 1863. Transferred to Camp Chase OH, and then to Fort Delaware, MD where he was released and exchanged on 29 Apr 1863. He returned to the 15 Tx Cav until 01 Sep, 1864 and was relieved, but remained with his unit serving in the Trans Mississippi Department until unit was disbanded in Tyler Tx, June 1865. He applied for his CSA pension and approved 09 May 1905.(Documented)

Great Grandson of Benjamin (1730-1802) and Nancy Ann Morgan Hart, both participated in the Revolutionary War, Battle of Kettle Creek, Georgia as part of the GA militia. Hart County, GA is named after Nancy Morgan Hart.
JMH was the GG grand nephew of Thomas, Nathaniel and David Hart who were partners in the Transylvania Company that purchased 30 million acres of land in eastern KY & TN in the early 1770s. He is a 3rd gen first cousin to Daniel Boone, hired by the company to establish the Cumberland Gap trail and to build a settlement, which became Boonesborough.

John Mark Hart was a member of the Palmersville, TN Masonic Lodge for over 55 years. His photo as Grand Master is included in this Memorial. He died in Meridian, MS and brought back to Weakley County for burial by his son, Benjamin (Bennie as he was known in the family).
