Deceased Name: FRANCIS H. ADAMS , TWINSBURG LEADER SERVICES FOR CITY'S FORMER MAYOR AND COUNCILMAN WILL BE AT 11 A.M. TOMORROW. HE DIED TUESDAY AT AGE 74
Services for former Twinsburg Mayor Francis H. Adams, who served on the first council when the village of Twinsburg was created, will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the First Congregational Church.

Mr. Adams, 74, died Tuesday after an illness.

He had recently moved back to town with his wife, Janet, to live with their son Will in the century-plus home on Ravenna Road where Mr. Adams was born and grew up.

The couple had moved in 1986 to southern Ohio to retire, and in recent years lived in Marietta. When they left the area, their son bought his father's homestead.

Both Mr. Adams and his wife were former members of the City Council in Twinsburg, where he became mayor in 1959. She also had been the Twinsburg correspondent for the Beacon Journal in the 1950s.

Mr. Adams, who had worked to incorporate Twinsburg as a village, served on the Village Council that was elected in March 1955 after voters approved the incorporation in November 1954.

The new village then encompassed 9.57 square miles. Over the years, it was transformed from a country town into a city with industrial zones and housing developments.

Mr. Adams was an operating engineer for construction companies before he and his wife started an excavating business in the Twinsburg area.

He was a horseman who kept horses and a pony for his family of four children.

Mr. Adams spent three years in the South Pacific with the Marine Corps during World War II.

In the Marietta area, he was a volunteer on the Ohio Historical Society stern-wheeler the W.P. Snyder, which was moored at the Ohio River Museum on the Muskingum River.

The Adamses celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Twinsburg First Congregational Church in 1995.

He graduated from Twinsburg High School, now Chamberlin High, in 1941.

In addition to his wife and son, he leaves sons Patrick of Central Bridge, N.Y., and James of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughter Gail Herriko of Boston Heights; sister Ferne Sellek of Strongsville; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson-Romito funeral home.

Burial will be in Locust Grove cemetery.
