Dr. Albert L. Butt was a well known member of his community and a practicing physician for more than five decades. He was 
educated at Neophogen College 
and Outfit College in Sumner County, and graduated
 from medical school at Vanderbilt University with the class of 1882. At the time of his death he was Vanderbilt's oldest living alumnus.

He did his post graduate work in medicine in Philadelphia and in Chicago and practiced in
 Logan and Simpson Counties, Kentucky, for
 more than fifty years, most of these
 years being spent at the ancestral area of his wife's family 
in Logan County. He joined the Methodist Church
 while a student in Vanderbilt and
 was for many years an officer in his
 local church.

When he retired from practice in the 1930s Dr. Butt moved with his wife to Danville, where he continued 
to reside until the time of his death.

Dr. Butt was an avid historian with many friends in the community. His views were sought out for headline articles in the Nashville Banner among other outlets. He is fondly remembered by his many descendants.
