Matilda A. Patton was born January 20, 1835. She was married to Barnett G. Chastain, November 6, 1851, to which union were born four children, three of them are still living, viz: Granville Chastain, of Campbellsburg, Peter G. Chastain, of Paris, Ill., and Mrs. Newton Goldsmith, of Mitchell. Her second husband has Henry Chastain who died several years ago. She died of dropsy at her home in Campbellsburg, October 5, 1908, aged 73 years, 8 months and 15 days.
The deceased for 38 long years was a member of the Regular Baptist church at Old Union and was a faithful and devoted member.
The funeral took place from the Old Union church Tuesday at 11 o’clock and was conducted by Rev. James V. Wolfe, of Campbellsburg, after which the remains were buried in the cemetery near by.
One by one the old pass to their reward, leaving loved ones behind to mourn their death.
