SCHLOSSER BROS. FOUNDER PASSES AT INDIANAPOLIS
-----
Henry Schlosser, Formerly of Bremen, Succumbs After Three Years of Failing Health; Funeral Monday.
-----
Henry Schlosser, who grew to manhood in this community and was for many years one of its leading citizens, died Thursday night at his home at Indianapolis after an illness which began about three years ago. He was sixty-seven years old and had lived in Indianapolis since 1909, when he went to that city from Bremen to have charge of the development and expansion of the Schlosser Brothers corporation, of which he was a founder.
Many relatives and friends from his old home here went to Indianapolis Monday to attend the funeral services.
Mr. Schlosser was the fourth son of Jacob and Evan Martin (Karrer) Schlosser, who settled in German township in 1855. Henry Schlosser was born March 28, 1863, and was reared on the old Schlosser homestead near Bremen. In 1891 he was united in marriage with Mary Duzan, who preceded him in death with their infant daughter. Later he was married to Mrs. Emma (Snyder) Martin, who survives him.
In 1884 Mr. Schlosser and his brother Phillip started the creamery and produce business which has grown into the present Schlosser Brothers corporation. From its meager start in a building erected at the corner of the home place near Bremen, the business has grown until it is now one of the large creamery and dairy concerns of the middle west. As the business increased, a new creamery was built in Bremen and another was added at Plymouth. Three other brothers, Jacob, Gustave and Samuel, were taken into the company and further expansion went on as the years went by, including plants at Fort Wayne, Frankfort and Indianapolis, with many stations serving these plants.
Henry Schlosser moved from here to Indianapolis in 1909 and remained active in the business until about three years ago, when failing health compelled him to retire.
Mr. Schlosser is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Lottie Aldag and Mrs. Lulu Linstead, of Indianapolis. He leaves also five brothers, Fred, George and William Schlosser of Bremen, Gustave Schlosser of Frankfort, and Samuel Schlosser of Plymouth, and one sister, Mrs. Noel Penrod of Bremen. There are also four grandchildren and many other more distant relatives.
Pall bearers in the funeral service Monday were Mr. Schlosser's nephews - Henry Verne and Wayne Schlosser of Fort Wayne; Monroe, John J. and Ray Schlosser of Frankfort; Walter K., Samuel, Jr. and William Schlosser of Plymouth; Chauncey Schlosser of Indianapolis; and Roscoe Penrod of Bremen.
Relatives and friends from Bremen who attended the funeral services Monday included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schlosser; Mr. and Mrs. George Schlosser; Mr. and Mrs. Noel Penrod; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hatfield; Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Knoblock; Mrs. Cora Huff; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Hershberger; Roscoe Penrod; Mr. and Mrs. George Marburger; Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Ringle; Mrs. Edward Berg; Mrs. Edward Keyser; Mrs. Anton Peterson; Charles Rhoade; Henry H. Miller; Edward S. Laudeman; John Baker; John Sherk; Edward Heckaman; Mr. and Mrs. Hosea Sarber; S. S. Laudeman; Ernest Schilt; Ellis Holderman.
