Indianapolis News - Thursday, January 6, 1881:
(New York Special) Hon. Albert G. Porter and Miss Cornelia Stone were married yesterday afternoon at the residence of Walter S. Gurnee, Fifth Avenue, New York. Out of respect to the Gurnee family, the members of which are in mourning, the wedding was private and invitations few and informal. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Freeman of Lockport, New York, a relative of the bride. Miss Stone wore a dress of rich cream-colored brocade with red blowers and a profusion of diamonds. She was given away by her brother, General Roy Stone. The windows of the parlors were darkened, and the rooms were brilliantly lighted with gas. The ceremony was witnessed by Gov. Porter's daughter, Miss Annie Porter; his son, Albert who is a student in Stevens Institute at Hoboken; General Dunn and Mrs. Dunn of Washington; Judge & Mrs. Joshua M. Vancott of Brooklyn; Mr. and Mrs. Lord of Washington; Mr. and Mrs. Addison Thomas; and a few other relatives and friends. After the ceremony a brief, informal reception took place, the bride and groom receiving the cordial congratulations of the guests. A wedding breakfast followed, and soon after, the Governor and Mrs. Porter took the fast express train for the West.
