Mary Jane Lorenz
Mary Jane Lorenz, 88, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at her residence in Nashville.
She was born July 28, 1914, in Indianapolis. Her parents were Carl Worth and Marie (Howe) Steeg. She married Frederick G. Lorenz on Feb. 17, 1940, in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2000. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Lorenz of Nashville and Helen Holdeman and Linda Norton, both of Franklin; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Carl W. Steeg Jr.
She was a 1932 graduate of Shortridge High School and a 1936 graduate of Indiana University.
She and her husband started Gnaw Bone Camp in Brown County in 1943. She remained active with the camp for 60 years.
She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Chapter P's PEO Sisterhood, Nashville Literary Club, Cedar Hills Homemakers Club, Nashville Christian Church Missionary Group and Indianapolis Propylaeum. She was a third-generation member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis and a founding member of Brown County Historical Society. She served as a Girl Scout leader for several years.
The Rev. Charles Stanley will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lilly Peace Chapel in Crown Hill Mausoleum in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the mausoleum. Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown is handling arrangements.
