Crash Near Columbus Fatal to 3 Persons
COLUMBUS, Ind. --- (UP) --- A headon auto crash killed three persons 2 miles east of here Wednesday, including an Indianapolis man and his small daughter. Three other members of his family were injured critically.
The dead were identified as Charles Harp, 48, his daughter Barbara, 5, and Arthur A. Kohn, 58, Chicago. Harp's wife, Donna Jean, 31, and two other daughters, Julia Ann, 10, and Diana Elaine, 7, were taken to Bartholomew County Hospital in critical condition.
State Police said Kohn tried to pass a car driven by Betty Shelby, Columbus, on a hill on U.S. 31. Kohn's car sideswiped the Shelby auto, then crashed head-on with the car carrying the Harp family.
The Indianapolis family was returning from Pleasureville, Ky., where Harp's father died recently. The family had gone to Kentucky to settle the estate.
