Appointed June 15, 1918
Retired November 1928
July 2, 1918: First assignment: Motion picture houses, department stores and other public places in the downtown district, 1:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
January 4, 1922: Policewomen were initially assigned solitary beats to patrol. One, Anna M. Buck, was assigned to patrol by herself on a district bounded by New York Street, Fall Creek, White River and Douglass Street. After looking her district over, she went home, saying if another woman was assigned, she would walk her district. Mayor Shank passed down orders for Buck to be assigned to Union Station.
January 13, 1923: Assigned to Housing & Sanitation Division.
January 15, 1923: Chief Herman Rikhoff tried to
fire Officer Buck, who respectfully refused to surrender her badge. On February 22, 1923, she was assigned to collect fines in the City Clerk’s Office.
December 29, 1926: Assigned as a Jail Matron.
Buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
