Indianapolis Star - Saturday, April 2, 1938:

Christopher C. Echols, 88 years old, retired railroad employee, died Thursday in his home on West Troy Avenue. A native of Johnson County, Mr. Echols came to Indianapolis in 1872 and four years later began service on the old Bee Line Railroad, now the Cleveland, Ohio Division of the Big Four Railroad. Later he was employed on the Indianapolis Belt Railroad, retiring in 1915.

Mr. Echols was married to Miss Mary Marquis in 1872. He was a member of the Morris Street M.E. Church 50 years, and in 1935, he received his 60-year membership pin in the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning in the residence. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors are three sons, Walter M. Echols of Chino, California; Byron C. Echols of Chino, California; and Edwin Ray Nichols of Indianapolis; and two daughters, Mrs. Grace Baker and Mrs. Mabel McAlpin, both of Indianapolis.
