Arthur married Lilla Parson in December 27, 1913. He adopted his wife's two children, Herod and Dimple. The 1930's was a time of the Great Depression. Many farmers experienced difficulties growing crops and making a living. Arthur faced the same fate. He looked for other avenues for a livelihood. Eventually, he and his immediate family left Caldwell. Arthur relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. Arthur and Lilla found work in this new environment. They started a janitorial service, working both residential and commercial properties. The family prospered.
Lilla died in 1948. The couple was married 35 years. Arthur was a widower for six years when he married Della C. Fox. Arthur was married to his second wife for nearly 16 years when he died on April 1, 1970, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was 84.
