Accident Causes Death

Mr. Campbell was found under the righthand cotton stripping assembly of his John Deere tractor by Shelby Hignight at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday on the Oren Jones farm. He had been renting the land for some time.

The farm accident, which cost Campbell his life, apparently occurred when he was working to clear the right hand stripper on his tractor. When the tractor was found, the motor was still running, the tractor was in second gear, and the clutch was engaged. The tractor had mde over 20 circles in the field before it stopped against the cotton trailer it was pulling, after the tongue of the trailer had been broken off.

Mr. Hignight stated that he was attracted to the scene by the smell of burning cotton and found cotton burning under the tractor. Hignight had been working in another field when he smelled the burning cotton.
