Samuel was the 1st born child of John and Mary Huston HUNTER. John and Mary left Ireland about 1810 or 1811 and arrived in Philadelphia, PA where their first born son, Samuel Huston Hunter was born on 4 February 1811. The family moved from Philadelphia to Armagh Township, Mifflin County near Lewistown, PA where Samuel's seven siblings were born; John Jr, James, Robert, Jane Ellen, Margaret, William and Mary. Before 1837 Samuel was still living in Mifflin County according to the obituary of his cousin Alexander Anderson who is buried in Armstrong County, PA. Sometime in the 1830's The Hunters all moved from Mifflin County. Samuel's parents and siblings moved west of the Allegheny Mountains to Allegheny County. Samuel moved to Bald Eagle Township in Clinton County, PA (Mill Hall) before or about 1834. Samuel's first born child, John, was born in 1834 in Mill Hall according to his obituary. Samuel was a tailor by trade and lived and worked in Mill Hall until his death on 1 April 1883 at age 72 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Samuel was married to Mary E. Thomas in 1833. They were the parents of ten children: John T Hunter, Jane Ellen Hunter Smith (wife of William Henry Smith), Martha Hunter Crispen (2nd wife of William Thomas Crispen), Albert Huston Hunter, Samuel Huston Hunter Jr, Sarah Augusta (Aunt Gussie) Hunter Palmer (wife of Solomon P Palmer), Irvin Torrence, Mary E Hunter Calderwood (wife of George Bressler Calderwood), Laura Hunter Stover (wife of Adam E Stover) & William Henry Hunter.
One daughter predeceased Samuel; Martha (2nd wife of William T CRISPEN) who was the mother of Mary Jane CRISPEN (Thomas J HICKOFF), Clara Ella CRISPEN (Titus ROSSER) and Harry Lincoln CRISPEN.
Another aged veteran passed from the scenes of earth to the eternal realms on Sunday last (April 1, 1883) in the person of Mr. S. Hunter, of Mill Hall.

Mill Hall [Clinton County, PA] Oct 29th/55
Isaac Thomas Sir. I received your letter requesting me to be at your place on the 2nd of next month. I would ike [like] to be along with you on that occation [occasion] But it is imposible [impossible]. I have the fevour [fever] and ague and have had it for 2 monts [months] and indeed all the famley [family] has had it all fawl [fall]. It is very Sickley [sickly] in this nabourhood [neighborhood]. Numbers have died. Mary would lik [like] to have gon [gone] up to see Caroline. But she is not able or she would have been up before this time. If she gets better and you have good luck in getting 5 or 6 saddles of venison. She will if possible try and get up this fawl [fall].
Nothing more at present but Remaing [Remaining]. Your Friend. S.H. Hunter.
