Frank M. Rayman was born April 1839 near Prosec, Vysoke Myto, Bohemia. He came to America via Bremenhaven to New York and arrived October 2, 1867 aboard the S.S. Baltic. He worked as a farm laborer a few years until purchasing his own farm. He married Barbara Yuska, June 4, 1871 in Tama County. Barbara was born in 1845 near Bela, Bohemia, Vysoke Myto, Bohemia. She was the daughter of Veit and Katherine (Odehnal) Yuska. This Yuska family came to America via Bremenhaven to New York arriving June 20, 1870 aboard the S.S. Republic. Frank M. Rayman died August 23, 1913. His death occurred very suddenly as he had just returned to the house after walking over his field to check gopher traps. Barbara died June 6, 1922 and was buried beside her husband at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery west of Clutier.
The name Rayman was often spelled Reymann and Rejman in early records.
On February 16, 1878, Frank M. Rayman purchased the N.W. 1/4 of the N.W. 1/4 of Section 30 in Oneida Township, Tama County, which was to be his location of residence until his death. This 40 acres was purchased from the Iowa Railroad Land Company for $400. Frank M. Rayman gave his address as
Belle Plaine, Benton County, Iowa at the time of this purchase in 1878. On April 29, 1881, Mr. Rayman purchased an adjoining 40 acres that is the N.E. 1/4 of the N.W. 1/4 of Section 30 for $200 from Frank M. and Laura Robinson of Dubuque County, Iowa.
Frank M. and Barbara Rayman were the parents of seven children, six daughters and one son. They were named Anna, Joseph, Mary, Sophia, Emilia, Katie and Emma. Emilia was born December 2, 1879 and died as a young child.
Anna Rayman was born February 9, 1872 in Oneida Township. She married Albert Chaska Sr. August 27, 1892 in Tama County. He was born April 23, 1858 in Bohemia and died September 12, 1955. Mr. Chaska came to America as a boy with his mother, Barbara Chaska. His father, Frank Chaska had died in Bohemia. Albert and Anna (Rayman) Chaska farmed in Carroll Township. They were the parents of five children, Emma (Chaska) Kunch, Albert, Stella (Chaska) Yuska, Joseph and Frank.
Joseph Rayman was born November 8, 1873 in Tama County and died January 20, 1954. He married Anna Vavra, February 23, 1903. She was born December 22, 1884, the daughter of John and Anna (Kriz) Vavra. Anna Rayman died at the home of her son, Joseph A. near Clutier, September 20, 1954. She suffered from diabetes and had to have both legs amputated. She was in a wheel chair for several years before her death. Joseph and Anna are buried at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery west of Clutier as is their son, Karl, who died as an infant in 1908. Joseph and Anna (Vavra) Rayman were the parents of four children, Frank John, Joseph A., Karl and Anna (Rayman) Raymond.
Mary Rayman was born February 20, 1876 and died March 22, 1961 in Lakefield, Minnesota. She married John Hromatka, February 7, 1898 in Tama County. John was born in 1866 in Chrudim, Bohemia and was killed in an auto accident near his home at Lakefield, Minnesota in July 1933. John was the son of John and Zofie (Deckal) Hromatka. Zofie died April 7, 1910 and is buried beside her son, John, at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery near Clutier. Mary is buried at Lakefield, Minnesota. John and Mary (Rayman) Hromatka farmed in Tama County for several years following their marriage before moving to a farm near Lakefield. They were the parents of four children, August, Joseph, Albert and Mary (Hromatka) Maciolek.
Sophia Rayman was born November 30, 1877 in Tama County. She died April 14, 1971 at the home of her daughter, Gladys. Sophia was married February 23, 1903 to Joseph Hess. It was a double wadding ceremony as Sophia's brother, Joseph Rayman married Anna Vava the same day. Both couples lived to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1953, and were residents of Clutier at the time. Joseph Hess was born July 18, 1881 in Carroll Township, the son of James/Vaclav and Anna (Kalina) Hess.
Joseph died April 28, 1964 and he and his wife are buried at the National Cemetery south of Vining. Joseph and Sophia (Rayman) Hess were the parents of five children, including two sons, Ferdinand E. and Alois P. both dying as infants, one in 1904 and the other in 1905. The other three children were, Gladys (Hess) Benda, Joseph Frank and Albye Jean (Hess) Hennessy.
Katie Rayman was born January 26, 1882 and died December 17, 1978. She was born in Tama County and her death occurred at the Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart. She first married Will Wobeter, April 2, 1907 at Clutier. He was born December 1879 and died December 29, 1950. Katie married second Joseph J. Chalupnik in 1925. He was born October 15, 1868 in Marshall County, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Chalupnik. Joseph J. has previously been married in 1893 to Anna Uridet and they were the parents of seven children. Will Wobeter and Katie (Rayman) were the parents of one daughter, Agnes, wife of William Peterzalek.
Emma Rayman was born January 25, 1885 near Clutier and died February 17, 1967 at the Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart. She married Joseph Saver January 29, 1907 at Clutier. He was born January 19, 1880 near Waltham in Tama County and died December 11, 1940 at his farm north of Clutier. Mr. Saver was the son of Thomas and Tressie (Pokorney) Saver, early pioneers to Tama County. Joseph and Emma (Rayman) Saver were the parents of one son, Louis Joseph.
