Hilda Gardo Cordell, 84, widow of James D. Cordell, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009.

Born August 26, 1924 in Laurens, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Gussie D. Gardo.

Mrs. Cordell was a homemaker and a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was well known as an excellent cook and enjoyed sending greeting cards on every occasion to friends and family.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane Mayson and husband Dale of Easley, and Dale Bagwell and husband Eddie of Powdersville; a son, Tommy Cordell and wife Terrie of Easley; three grandsons; a granddaughter; and five great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Clara G. Morris, Naomi G. Putnam, Margaret G. Phillips, and Manolia G. Smith; a brother, Thomas Herman Gardo; and a beloved granddaughter, Amy Mayson Swee.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2700 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Graceland West Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamie and Cory Bagwell, David Cordell, Jerry and Ted Morris, and David Kennemer.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Eddie and Dale Bagwell, 503 Jameson Drive, Piedmont, SC.
