Bertha Irene Eason of Gatesville died June 8 at a local nursing home. She was 83.
Funeral services were held Monday at Eastwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Dunks officiating.
Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Jacksonville, Ark. She was raised and attended school in Childress.
On Oct. 21, 1927, she married Robert Lee Eason and they moved to Gatesville in 1972. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1978.
She was active in the senior citizens' group, receiving many awards for her service as a retired senior volunteer.
She was a local ombudsman and a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also served in the Women's Missionary Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Harvey of Pasadena and Jo Ann Donaldson of Gatesville; two sons, Robert Eason of Friendswood and K.T. Eason of Braxton, Miss.; one sister, Ruby Smith of Lubbock; one brother, Elvis Edwards of Roswell, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Marc Dingler, Clay Reeves, Larry McDonald, Bob Beck, Lael Osteen and Billy Donaldson.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Gatesville Christian Academy, 1506 W. Main Street, Gatesville, or to the Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 E. Main, Gatesville.
