An Obituary fro "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, 5-10-1968:

James Monroe Brookshire, retired farmer who lived on Rt. 2, Gatesville, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday in the local hospital. He was 66.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Rev. Bob Richmond. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Brookshire had been in failing health for some time.
He was born in Coryell County March 24, 1902, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Brookshire.
He lived in this county all his life with the exception of nine years spent in Hamilton County. He was a member of the Keener Chapel Methodist Church.
He was married to Miss Margaret Bone April 5, 1925.
Survivors are his wife of Rt. 2, Gatesville; a son, James Frank Brookshire, who is serving in the U. S. Navy and is stationed in Rhode Island; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Shafer of Alvarado and Mrs. Mary Lue Schafrick of Fort Worth; one brother, J. W. Brookshire of Hamilton; six sisters, Mrs. Nancy Lindauer of Hamilton, Miss Minnie Brookshire of Hamilton, Mrs. Bessie Smith of Gatesville, Mrs. Ada Edwards of Killeen, Mrs. Fannie Morrow of Munday and Mrs. Irene Wolfe of San Antonio; and nine grandchildren.
Nephews serving as pallbearers for Mr. Brookshire's funeral were George E. Bone, H. P. Brookshire Jr., Gayle Edwards, George Harris, Ruben Brookshire and Charles Bone. Other nephews were honorary pallbearers.
