Edwin Lawrence Burke Jr., 78, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 4, 1931, in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans in 1950. He served in the U.S. military for several years, in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army. He married Nellie Ruth Adams in 1954. He returned to college at 38 and graduated from Rollins College in Orlando, FL in 1972 with honors.

In 1963 he moved to Titusville, FL, where he was employed by Chrysler Corp.'s Space Division at the Kennedy Space Center. In 1975 he and his family moved to Chattanooga, TN, where he worked for TVA Nuclear Division until retirement in 1994.

He was an avid LSU Tigers football fan and active in the foundation of the Pop Warner Football League in Titusville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin L. Burke Sr. and Imelda Weilbacher; and brothers, Donald and Mickey Burke.

Survivors include, wife, Nellie Adams Burke; sons, Larry (Lynn) Burke, of Chattanooga, TN, Pat (Becky) Burke, of Corpus Christi, TX, Jeff (Vicki) Burke, of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Reenie (Vince) Stafford, of Chattanooga, TN; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Anne Livicarri, of New Orleans, LA, and Jane Anne Burke, Red Bluff, CA.

He cherished his wife of 55 years and loved having his family with him.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charlie Burton officiating.

Interment will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at the funeral home.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
