Ensign Hanton was a pilot of a F4U-4B Corsair fighter bomber with Fighter Squadron 54 aboard the carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge (CV-45).
He is noted as being from Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. However his tombstone notes "New York". He also has notes at Delaware State Archives as being from New Castle County, Delaware. I've been unable to determine why.
While on a reconnaissance mission near Chonui, Korea, his aircraft crashed and burned.
There is some evidence that he became a POW and was killed while captured. Arthur was awarded a Purple Heart.
