J. Victor Bess, 87, passed away on April 27, 1990 at Alta View Hospital.

Born April 11, 1903 in Salt Lake City to John H. and Luella Moody Bess.

Married Clara Rice on June 23, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1990.

Raised in Granger, Utah. Graduated from LDS High School. Employee and manager of the Paris Company Shoe Department for over forty years.

A devoted member and High Priest of the LDS Church, he served a mission to Mexico, served as Mutual president, Sunday School Superintendent, bishopric member, and on the South Salt Lake High Council.

Civic minded, he was very active as a member of the South Salt Lake Town Council, member and president of the Granite School Board, one of the founders, and first president, of the South Salt Lake Lions Club, and an active member of the board of directors of the Craft House for many years.

Survived by son, Robert D. Bess and wife Jean; brother, Milton M. Bess, all Salt Lake City; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by wife; son, Ronald Jay; parents; and three brothers.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 1990 at 12:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at MacKay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive.
