Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Austin Messenger; one brother and one sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Espy and her husband, Jim of Strafford, Mo.; a son, Gordon Wilson and his wife, Cecilia of Bois D'Arc, Mo.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends. She is also survived by three step-sons and their wives, Gerald and Rena Messenger, Springfield, Don and Sue Hickman, St. Charles, Mo., and Carlos and Fran Messenger, Little Rock, Ark.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Emilee and Wayne Radford of Nixa, Mo.; 10 step-grandchildren; and 19 step-great grandchildren.
Kay grew up on a farm north of Republic and spent most of her early adult life in the Republic area. She lived in Springfield for a time where she was employed at Royal McBee until it's closure and later worked for Springfield Public Schools. After retirement she moved back to Republic where she resided until her death. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Kay was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and delighted in sharing the fruits in her garden. Kay was an active member of First Baptist Church in Republic, Mo. She lived her life in Christ with dedication and grace. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her loving, caring nature, her quiet determination, and her courage. Kay will remain forever in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, with Pastor Steve Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home.
