ORANGE- Stanley W. Cleveland, 79, of 420 West River Street, died on Friday morning, January 23rd at UMass Memorial Healthcare- Leominster Hospital, Leominster, after being stricken ill earlier.

Born in Orange on December 22, 1929, he was a son of Hollis and Alice (Webb) Cleveland and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1947. While in high school, Stanley enjoyed playing football and baseball, and was an assistant to the janitor from his Freshmen year through Senior year.

Stanley married Charlotte B. (Flood) on December 22, 1949, which was also both their birthdays. They have enjoyed 60 years together.

Stanley enlisted into the United States Army on February 25, 1952, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was Honorably discharged on October 24, 1953.

Employed by the Erving Paper Mill from 1947-1949, Stanley then went on to work for the Town of Orange Water Department and was Superintendent for many years before retiring in 1989.

Stanley enjoyed fishing and gambling, as well as flea markets and kayaking.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Cleveland of Orange; sons, Wayne Cleveland and Darrell Cleveland Sr., both of Orange; grandchildren, Shawn, Darrell Jr., Brent, Lisa, Krista, and Josh; and seven great grandchildren.

Stanley was predeceased by a brother, Fred Cleveland, in 2002.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, January 27th from 10-11AM at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, January 27th at Witty's Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
