Major league baseball player 1903-1911. Position player for the Brooklyn Superbas, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and the Washington Senators.

Became manager of the Pittsburgh team in the Federal League in 1914. He was replaced by Rebel Oakes. The teams became known as the Pittsburgh Rebels after their new manager.

Doc Gessler was one of 3 doctors in the 1906 World Series. He graduated from John Hopkins Medical School.
