OBIT-PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY ADVANCE: Vol 69, #12, Thursday, March 20, 1947

MRS MARY ADRIAN PASSES AWAY THURSDAY IN IMLAY CITY.

Funeral rites were held here Saturday (15 Mar 1947) for Mrs Mary Adrian, age 87, who died Thursday in Imlay City after a 5 month illness.

Mrs Adrian spent the greater part of her life in Rogers City leaving several years ago to make her home in Imlay City with her son Fred, and in Phoenix, Arizona, with her daughter Mrs Willard (Eda) Vanatter.

She was born Mary Roeske in Roseville on March 2, 1860, and was married there in 1876 to August Adrian who passed away on March 25, 1920.

The accompanying photograph of Mrs Adrian, taken last summer, shows her at the homecoming celebrations in the city park. She had come from Phoenix for the occasion and was awarded a prize for being the person traveling the greatest distance to attend. [note: The newspaper article had a picture of Mary Adrian receiving the prize, but I wasn't able to make a copy of it for this genealogy report...rca]

Besides her son and daughter, survivors include two brothers: Fred and John Florip, two sisters, Mrs Lena Hopp and Mrs Louise Schmidt all of Rogers City; three living grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

[The living grandchildren would have been Cornelia Theel, Alice Kegler, and Bob Adrian; Dorothea, sister of Cornelia, died at the age of 5 before`Alice and Bob were born and Laura Fordney, daughter of Aunt Eda, died in childhood at the age of 10; there were also two step-grandchildren, Claude and Eleanor Vanatter; The great grandchildren would have been Fred and Doris Theel, Martin Kegler, and Bobbie and Karl Adrian...rca]

Mrs Adrian had been a member of St John Ev Lutheran Church for 74 years and it was there that the funeral services were held at 2:30pm following a brief prayer service at the Karr Mortuary. Rev Louis Linn officiated. Pall bearers were Henry and William Haselhuhn, Herman Hopp, Albert Schultz, Herman Zinkie, and Gustave Bredow. Interment was in the Rogers City Memorial Park.
