Augusta Marie Schultz, nee Oldenburg, was born Sept. 23, 1853, in Pomerania, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Neuenkirchen, near her birthplace, July 16, 1880. She became the wife of the late Gustav Schultz. Almost immediately after the marriage ceremony, she left with her husband for America, arriving in Lincoln, Nebr. on Sept. 16th, and at once proceeded to establish a home on a farm two miles east and one mile north of the then village of Germantown. Being church minded they affiliated themselves with Trinity Lutheran church near Malcolm. In this church the deceased held membership up to the year 1910, when she had her membership transferred to Zion Ev. Lutheran church of Garland, of which she remained a faithful member up to the time of her death.
In December 1905, after a very brief illness, her husband passed away. Her marriage was blessed with five children, of whom three have preceded their parents in death.
Last fall, because of physical weakness, she was taken to her children, Arnold and Mrs. Schultz, at McCook, Nebr. Here she received faithful attention and the best of care until it pleased God in His wise providence to take her from this vale of tears unto Himself, on the 14th instant, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 21 days. She leaves to mourn her death, two sons, Arnold of McCook, Nebr., and William of Garland; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Krieser of Middle Creek; other relatives and many friends.
After an appropriate service last Friday afternoon, held in Zion Ev. Lutheran church, the earthly remains of the deceased were committed to the grave in Trinity Ev. Lutheran cemetery east of Garland, with the Rev. T. Joeckel officiating.
