Fayette County - LOUISE BRINKLEY MORTON, 95, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late John Parrott Morton died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Funeral Services for Mrs. Morton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with interment in the Somerville City Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Peebles. The daughter of the late Robert C. and Georgie Ella Brinkley, Mrs. Morton was a lifelong resident of the Somerville Community and a devoted member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church for 85 years. She was associated with her late husband in the operation of the Morton Lumber Company in Somerville for many years before their retirement. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margeurite Estridge and Jenny Starks of Memphis. Survivors include lifetime family friends, the Jim Bowling Family; the John Wilder Family and nurturing friends whom she considered her children, Vicki Mills and Jimmie Bowling. Memorials are requested to the Somerville First United Methodist Church. SARAH LOUISE BRINKLEY MORTON, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late John Parrott Morton died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, December 23, 2009 at her home. She was 95 years of age and died following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Morton were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Larry Kendrick, Pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville. Mrs. Morton was born on June 23, 1914 in Fayette County the daughter of the late Robert Cecil Brinkley and the late Georgie Ella Perry Brinkley, early residents of the Fayette County area. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. She continued her education by receiving a Teaching Certificate and as a young person taught school in the area prior to her marriage. She was the wife of John Parrott Morton, a well-known Fayette County Building Contractor and Owner of Morton Lumber Company in Somerville before his death on April 6, 1983. Mrs. Morton was a homemaker and in earlier years assisted her husband in the office operation of their lumber business before their retirement. Mrs. Morton was a devoted member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church where she had attended for over eighty-five years. She and her late husband will be remembered for their love of community and church, quietly serving as philanthropists without the need for award or recognition. She enjoyed the company of family and friends and remained independent throughout her life, living alone in the family home until her death. In earlier years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and family members to various destinations throughout the United States. With a flair for fashion never bound by age, Mrs. Morton will be remembered for her meticulous appearance as well that of her home in which she took much care and pride. Survivors of Mrs. Morton include lifetime family friends, the Jim Bowling Family; the John Wilder Family and nurturing friends whom she considered her children, Vicki Mills and Jimmie Bowling, both of Somerville. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Marguerite Estridge and Jenny Starks, both of Memphis. Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Chris Bowling, Weston Bowling, Will Bowling, David Wilder, Shelton Wilder and Joe Yager.
