NORA L. THORSON
Nora Thorson was born Dec. 17, 1893, at Glencoe to Jacob and Mable (Frood) Lamb. Mr. Lamb had previously been married to Faith Cordon from Missouri township - she passed away and left him with one son, Wilbur. Jake and Mable were the parents of five children: Nora (Mrs. J.C. Thorson), Isabell (Mrs. Frank King), Miriam (Mrs. Paul Row-lette), Harry and Merlin.
In 1910, the family moved to Petersburg, VA, where Mr. Lamb had been raised. Nora married Commie Johnson, a widower with one daughter, in Virginia. Two daughters were born to the Johnsons: Ida and Irene. While in Petersburg, Nora was employed at the Bluebird Theater to provide background music (piano) for silent films.
In 1924, Nora and her daughters returned to North Dakota to help her uncle, George Frood , at his farm southwest of Moffit. She later kept house and cooked for George Lenhart at Hazelton and once again was hired as the piano player for silent films by Mr. Lowe. The main location for showing these films was the "fun center" for the area, Persian Lake. She married Edward Allensworth of Telfer township in about 1925. They held dances in their barn and it became the place for the "in" crowd during the late 1920's and early 1930's, drawing people from many miles around. She worked at the State Land Department during the latter 1930's and lived in Bismarck. Nora had a reputation as an excellent cook and was employed by the Growlers Club in Bismarck as housekeeper and cook. This club was composed of a group of single doctors who lived in a private residence.
On Aug. 1, 1942, she and J.C. Thorson were married and they lived on Mr. Thorson's farm, 2 1/2 miles north of Moffit. When Mr. Hinsey retired as postmaster at Moffit, she was appointed and held that position until her death on March 17, 1955.
Nora was a member of the Moffit Methodist Church and is buried at the Moffit cemetery.Her daughter Ida (Mrs. John Doan) passed away in 1956. Irene (Mrs. Charles Neumann) resides at Great Falls, MT. Her granddaughters are: Mrs. A.K. Schuler (Ethel Louise Welch), Bismarck, ND, and Mrs. John Schneck (Judy Hansen), Stockton,
