Windsor Brown Heaton was born on 7 September 1886 in Pierson, Woodbury, IA; the son of Lucius Edwin Heaton and Maria Louisa Spracklin. He was probably named after his great-uncle Windsor Brown--brother to his paternal grandmother, Mary Brown. He moved to Burleigh County, North Dakota with his family in about 1906. While living in McKenzie, North Dakota, he met Minnie Conley, a schoolteacher. They were married on 12 October 1911. They had identical twin daughters. Windsor started the Heaton and Lambert lumber company in Arena, North Dakota along with his brother-in-law, Frank Lambert. Windsor died on 24 February 1920 at 34 years of age from pneumonia.
