Daniel W Woods, a prominent resident of this community, passed away at his home here Saturday evening following a six months illness of arterial sclerosis.
Mr Woods was born on December 28, 1842 in Windsor county, Vermont. He served his country with the twelfth Vermont Infantry during the Civil War, following which he moved to Joliet, Illinois. On September 29, 1867 he was united in married to Ellen L Bailey at Mt Vernon, Illinois and in 1874 they moved to Kansas where they lived until 1880, when, after a short stay in Indiana they came to Greenfield in Adair county, residing there until January 1903, when the moved to Iowa City until July 1908, when they returned to Greenfield from which place they came to State Center in 1911. They have resided here continuously since that time.
Besides his wife Mr Woods is survived by four children: Mrs W H Reever of Glidden; Sam Woods of Des Moines; Dr A D Woods of this city and Mrs L J Wilkinson of Laurel; and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs Mary E Weston and Mrs Julia Watson, both of Kansas City, Kansas also survive.
The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the home, with Rev Albert E Coe, of Monticello, a friend of Mr Woods, in charge.
The funeral procession and service at the grave in Hillside were in charge of the local post of the American Legion. Four Legionaires acted as color bearers, six performed the duties of pall bearers and a bugle corps of four members and a firing squad of nine had part in the ceremony.
