James Albert Winfrey, son of Reuben and Catherine Winfrey was born January 23, 1879 in Camden County. He was united in marriage to Ollie Davis on October 10, 1899, and to this union six children were born. Rev. Winfrey was converted at the age of 15 years and began his preaching ministry at the age of 30, and continued this work as long as his health permitted. Rev. and Mrs. Winfrey lived most of their lives on a farm 10 miles north of Lebanon for 35 years prior to moving to Lebanon.

Pastored the High Point Baptist Church in Stoutland, Camden Co., MO for many years. Also pastored the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Lebanon, Laclede Co., MO.
