BROKEN ARROW -- Loyd Vaden Roberts, a former owner of LaMode Quality Cleaners and the brother of evangelist Oral Roberts, died Thursday. He was 88.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home in Tulsa.
Roberts was born Oct. 8, 1915, in Oil Center to Claudius and Ellis Roberts.
He married Lillie Mae Johnson on April 16, 1933.
During World War II, Roberts worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, where he oversaw the installation and production of components that were used in B-24 and A-26 Bombers.
From 1947 to 1951, he assisted with his brother's faith-healing ministry and supervised equipment that was used for traveling crusades.
Roberts returned to Tulsa in 1951 to co-own and operate LaMode Quality Cleaners in Brookside. Shortly afterward, he and his wife retained full ownership of LaMode.
The dry cleaning service would grow to eight locations before it was sold in the late 1980s.
Roberts also opened two other dry cleaning services, Vaden Roberts Cleaners and Denver Cleaners, which also were sold when he retired in the late '80s.
He is survived by two sons, Edward Roberts of Tulsa and Buddy Roberts of Cleveland, Okla.; one brother, Oral Roberts of Palm Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
