Mr. Lester "Ted" Langstraat, age 69, of Hospers, passed away Thursday, June 6, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, after a lingering illness of cancer.

Lester was born June 10, 1921, at Newkirk, the son of Henry P. and Anna Maria (Scholten) Langstraat.

On January 18, 1945, he married Alice De Haan at the bride's parents' home at Hospers. The couple farmed in the Newkirk area. In addition, Mr. Langstraat was employed at Silent Sioux in Orange City, the Sheldon Community Hospital, and H & S Manufacturing in Hospers. In 1977, they moved into Hospers. He retired in 1985, due to his health.

"Ted" was a life-long member of the Newkirk Reformed Church. He was also a longtime member of the Orange City Bowling League.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter; and son-in-law, Donald Heerde.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at the Newkirk Reformed Church, with the Rev. Michael Pitsenberger officiating. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
