Clarence A. "Shep" Shepard, 87, of Connersville died Thursday, January 31, 2008 in the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health System.
A Fayette County native, he was born March 3, 1920 to Lowell T. and Nora Mae Brown Shepard. He attended Connersville area schools and was a life-long resident of Fayette County. A WW II US Army veteran, he served from 1941 to 1945 attaining the rank of Corporal. His military decorations include the Purple Heart and EAME Theater ribbon with five bronze stars. Clarence received a commendation from the 36th Infantry Division for his leadership of the battalion "during ten months of fierce combat and rigid training beginning with the invasion of Italy." He was a member of the American Legion and Voiture 1040 of 40 et 8 where he had served as Chef De Gare in 1961. In 1985, he retired from Ford Electronics after 42 years as a group leader and foreman. Clarence enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing at his camp at Dale Hollow Lake, TN.

Survivors include his son and his spouse: Jack and Becky Shepard of Richmond; a daughter and her spouse: Iva Sue and Harold Smith of Connersville; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Clarence Shepard.
