Richard Max Cannon, 81
NEW LEXINGTON - Richard Max Cannon, 81 of New Lexington, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center after a short illness.
Born Sunday, Nov. 14, 1926, in Crooksville, he was a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mining engineering.
Max was a professional engineer and surveyor, serving as a mining superintendent of Columbia Cement for 19 years. He most recently was a retired employee of American Electric Power, where he held the position of Chief Mining Engineer. Max held active memberships in such organizations as Peerless Lodge 591 F&AM, where he was a 60-year member, The Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, Aladdin Shrine, Perry County Farm Bureau, the Society of Mining Engineers and the First United Methodist Church of Crooksville.
He loved dinners with his family and watching his grandchildren participate in sports. Max was also an avid farmer, fisherman and hunter. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army, through which he protected his country.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Ballard Cannon, of the home; a daughter, Jody Cannon of Crooksville; three sons, Kim (Kathie) Cannon of Easley, S.C., Kevin (Judy) Cannon of New Lexington and Kent (Sharon) Cannon of New Lexington; eight grandchildren, Danielle (Jason) Whitehead, Nathaniel Cannon, Koehler (Hall) Beard, Drew and Clinton Max Cannon, Jensen Reed, Hunter and Bo Cannon; and one great-grandchild, Ellie Whitehead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer D. and Lois Watts Cannon; and a great-grandson, Jack Whitehead.
Calling hours from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at The First United Methodist Church, 102 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville, where Peerless Lodge 591 will conduct Masonic Services beginning at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at the church with Rev. Gay E. Blau officiating. Burial will follow in Crooksville Cemetery. Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville is assisting the Cannon family with arrangements.
