A. Paul Janes, 75, of Rockton passed away Dec. 16, 2009, at home, after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. Born Sept. 20, 1934, in Kirksville, Mo., to Fredrick Arlo and Blanche (Steele) Janes. On Oct. 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Scriven, in Central Christian Church in Rockford. From that union were born three children. Paul was well known in the area for his landscaping abilities. Employed by Wagon Wheel Resort for more than 20 years. He was involved with the building of Red Barn Golf Course and its maintenance for many years. He was greens superintendent at Ledges Country Club and for Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club for several years. Employed for 25 years by Bill and Jayne Bryden at Bryden Motors of Beloit, Wis. Co-owned with his wife Paul Janes Lawn Care for more than 40 years. Paul leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 56 and a half years, Barbara; daughter, Laura Gayle Janes and her son, Jared Paul Janes, all of Rockton; daughter, Jonie Janes Gosnell and her sons, Joshua Paul (Bobbi Jo) Gosnell and Jacob Alan Gosnell, all of Machesney Park; son, Randall Paul (Jana) Janes and his son, Martin Paul Janes, all of Rockton; sisters, Darlene (Pete) Annis and Yvonne (Ross) Bixs of Ottumwa, Iowa; brothers, James (Betty) Janes of Bloomfield, Iowa and Larry Gene (Mary) Janes of Des Moines, Iowa; brother-in-law, Phillip Scriven of South Beloit; many nieces and nephews; numerous other relatives; dear friends, Estell Childs and Deanna Williams. Predeceased by parents; mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Nellie Scriven; son-in-law, Robert Gosnell in 1994; two infant brothers; godmothers, Pauline Stevenson, who attended his birth, and Gayle Manners. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Edwards, Jeanne O. and staff of Act Medical Group, Dr. David Hansen and staff. No one could have received better care over the years he was ill. Also wish to thank Dr. Craig January of UW Hospital in Madison, Wis. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton. Private burial in Rockton Township Cemetery.
